From Besi Sahar we hiked over Upper Pisang to Manang. This was followed by the crossing of the Thorong La and the visit of the holy places of Muktinath. From Kangbeni, at the gateway to Mustang, we followed the Kali Gadanki valley down to Tatopani. The descent went through the Poon Hill with the panoramic view of Daulagiri and Annapurna.
After 15 years we were back in Thailand. On the beach of Koh Samui we refueled sun and heat. Then we went with the kids on tour. From Chiang Mai in northern Thailand over the ancient royal cities Sukhothai and Ayutthaya to the south at Prachuap Kiri Khan. One of the less touristic areas. New Year's Eve we spent in modern Bangkok.
The Khmer temples of Angkor Wat at Siem Reap and the Tonle Lap are an experience. Phnom Phen and Cambodia's recent past are in total contrast. In the south at the coast we expected beautiful beaches and were disappointed. Finally a beautiful tropical island made our dreams become true.
A walking tour led us along the Circular Quay, past the Opera House and the Botanic Gardens. With the Ferry we sailed to Manly and Darling Harbour. The Coastal Walk led us from Bondi Beach to Coogee. The nightlife and the relaxed atmosphere we enjoyed in Darling Harbour and Chinatown.
Unique coasts and untouched nature. Seals, sea lions, penguins and beached whales. A kayak trip on the Milford Sound and a hike in Abel Tasman National Park. Finally a dance on the volcano. This and much more offered Zealand.
Relaxed days we enjoyed in the rice fields of Ubud / Bali. Mass tourism startled us at the so called Gili Islands. Secluded coves and beaches we found in the surfer's paradise of Lombok. The dragons - Komodo dragons - we visited at Rinca and Komodo. There we dived with Manta's and sharks. Finally we went to waterfalls, Bamboo forests, hot springs and volcanoes on Flores.
On the Tenzing-Hillary trek we walked from Jiri to Lukla. Through the Sagarmatha National Park, via Namche Bazar to Gokyo Ri with stunning views of Mount Everest, Lotse, Nuptse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. Then we crossed the discerning Cho La and went on up to Gorak Shep at the Khumbu glacier. The great earthquake at Everest Base Camp and bad weather then forced us to descend.
